Rahsheim A. Wright is a veteran political strategist, environmental justice advocate, and public servant with over 25 years of leadership spanning mass media, the halls of Congress, the executive branch, and grassroots community organizing.
Currently serving as the Black Civic Engagement Director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Rahsheim directs strategic partnerships and shapes key electoral and issue campaigns across the country. Recognizing the urgent need to bridge the gap between sustainability and communities of color, he co-founded Klean Energy Kulture in 2021 to transform clean energy into a culturally resonant, equitable lifestyle movement.
Rahsheim Wright is a veteran political strategist, environmental justice advocate, and public servant with over 25 years of leadership spanning mass media, the halls of Congress, the executive branch, and grassroots community organizing. A Washington, D.C. native and product of the Prince George's County public school system, Rahsheim holds a B.A. in mass communications from Savannah State University.
Currently serving as the Black Civic Engagement Director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Rahsheim directs strategic partnerships and shapes key electoral and issue campaigns across the country. Recognizing the urgent need to bridge the gap between sustainability and communities of color, he co-founded Klean Energy Kulture in 2021 to transform clean energy into a culturally resonant, equitable lifestyle movement. His work is underpinned by an early career in corporate media in advertising and promotions for a commercial radio network and a regional CBS television affiliate.
As the former Maryland State Director for The Impact Project, Rahsheim led the campaign to pass the nation's premier Prescription Drug Affordability Board (HB 76), the groundbreaking healthcare Easy Enrollment Act (HB 814), and structural expansions to the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarships (SB 0260) for professional licensure pipelines—while successfully initiating a multi-year coalition effort for state Paid Family Leave.
Rahsheim's distinguished track record in federal policy includes an appointment in the Obama Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor (Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs), where he directed portfolios on civil rights, workforce development, and pay equity. He also served as a senior legislative aide to U.S. Congresswoman Donna Edwards, managing complex domestic policy issues.
A dedicated civic leader, Rahsheim serves as a for the City of District Heights, Maryland, representing a thriving community on the D.C. border. He sits on the Board of Directors for both the Legacy Education Collective and the historic, 210-year-old Hillcrest Children and Family Center, and is a proud brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

From leading the coalition nights at Andrew Jackson Middle School to secure the life-saving pedestrian crosswalk on MD-4 (Pennsylvania Ave), to uniting the police and HOAs to clean up the Walters Lane BP station, he has a long track record of getting things done right here in our neighborhoods.
As the former State Director of The Impact Project, Rahsheim managed a substantial budget and built the bipartisan coalitions that passed landmark Maryland laws—including the nation's first Prescription Drug Affordability Board and the Easy Enrollment Act to expand healthcare to uninsured residents. He knows exactly how to navigate Annapolis to benefit working families..
As a Labor Campaign Advocate at SEIU, Rahsheim builds massive multi-million-dollar independent expenditure programs and statewide coalitions to protect democracy and turn out voters. He will bring that elite-level campaign infrastructure, data expertise, and organizing power directly home to strengthen our local grassroots Democratic party.
As a City of District Heights , Rahsheim has already brought over a million dollars in state and federal funding to the city, distributed 100 tech devices to bridge the digital divide under Governor Wes Moore's initiative, and hosted Second Chance job fairs to create economic opportunities for our residents.
A long-time leader, Rahsheim is a trusted national voice frequently tapped to train young activists at institutions like the HBCU Summer Institute for Worker Justice. He is committed to mentoring, diversifying, and expanding the Democratic party pipeline to ensure our district always has a seat at the table.
From federal government affairs to local community leadership.
Serving on the staff of Congresswoman Donna Edwards, Rahsheim leveraged his position to transform local transportation and fight for walkable, transit-accessible communities following fatal accidents along the high-speed MD-4 corridor. Refusing to let bureaucratic red tape cost more lives, he formed a powerful community coalition that spent countless nights at Andrew Jackson Middle School meticulously designing a comprehensive pedestrian safety plan. By bringing the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) directly to the table, Rahsheim effectively championed the community's vision—ultimately forcing state action to implement vital, life-saving crosswalks and synchronized signals.
Recognizing that a notorious BP gas station on Walters Lane had served as a violent crime and drug trafficking epicenter for decades, Rahsheim orchestrated a masterclass in community teamwork to reclaim public safety. Harnessing the collective power of Prince George's County, he forged an unbreakable alliance uniting the County Nuisance Abatement Board, local police department, HOA leaders, and grassroots advocates. Through this coordinated pressure, the coalition successfully forced a temporary shutdown of the station to mandate sweeping security upgrades, breaking the back of the open-air drug market and delivering immediate peace of mind to Forestville families.
As State Director of The Impact Project, Rahsheim managed a budget and aligned a bipartisan team to pass three of four priority bills during the 2019 Maryland General Assembly session. He successfully championed House Bill 76 to establish the nation's first Prescription Drug Affordability Board, the Easy Enrollment Act (HB 814) to let uninsured residents get healthcare coverage by checking a box on their state tax returns, and Senate Bill 260 to expand Promise Scholarships to non-credit licensing courses and apprenticeships.
Bringing over a decade of high-level labor leadership to his political advocacy, Rahsheim has spent his career building raw, multi-racial worker power at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). He began anchoring regional electoral infrastructure in 2013 as the Political Director of the SEIU Maryland and DC State Council, before moving to the International Union as an Area Political Director. Today, as SEIU Civic Engagement Director, he builds powerful national and statewide coalitions to drive historic voter turnout and counter deep voter cynicism.
In 2025, Rahsheim was appointed by the Mayor and Commission of the City of District Heights to fill a critical vacancy. Since stepping into office, Wright has championed digital equity by delivering 100 technological devices directly to low-income residents, partnered with Employ Prince George's to host a highly successful Second Chance Job Fair, and leveraged his extensive political network to bring over one million dollars in vital funding back to the City of District Heights.
Recognizing his deep strategic expertise, Rahsheim is frequently sought after to lead workshops and sit on prominent local and national panels. Whether speaking to national civil rights leaders about building independent political power, or conducting tactical training sessions for the next generation of activists at institutes like the HBCU Summer Institute for Worker Justice, he brings invaluable, real-world perspective to deconstruct complex policy fights and deliver actionable strategies that empower Black communities to mobilize, resist, and win.
